The United States is set to take on Paraguay for the first match of Group B play on Friday night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Ahead of this contest, Canada will host Bosnia-Herz for their opening match in Toronto.
USMNT star Christian Pulisic and his team are ready for the challenge of defending their home turf. It won’t be easy, but the Americans have a roster that could shock some teams. The journey to glory will be extremely difficult.
Ahead of the opening match on Friday, Pulisic sat down with DJ Siddiqi for a Q & A. Pulisic gave a small glimpse into his relationship with Clint Dempsey, his former teammate on the USMNT.
Q: “Out of curiosity, have you talked to some of the American greats, like Landon Donovan, Clint, Dempsey. I know that they’ve had great things to say about you, especially Dempsey. Have you talked to them at all recently?”
Pulisic: “No, I haven’t spoken to them. But I’m pretty busy. I’m sure they’re very busy as well.”
Q: “Is there any notable advice that you’ve ever received from those guys? Anything that stands out directly?”
Pulisic: “I played a lot with Clint, which was cool. For me, the biggest thing I took from him is just his fearless attitude. He’s not afraid to say it as it is. He’s like, ‘This is your team. Now, go take it, go grab that baton. Go crazy, do your thing. Really step up and do it.’ That’s kind of his mentality. I just always liked the way he approached the game a lot.”
This is Pulisic’s team now. The 2022 World Cup was an introduction for this team to build the experience needed to make a statement this year. Now in 2026, the team is ready to build upon 2022 and win a Knockout Stage match.
