Brandon Bussi gets nod to start crucial Hurricanes Game 5 vs. Golden Knights

The Stanley Cup Final has been nothing short of a wild rollercoaster ride for everyone involved, and Game 4 of the series was no exception. Ultimately, it was the Carolina Hurricanes tying the series at two wins apiece thanks to their 5-3 victory at T-Mobile Arena over the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Hurricanes made a switch between the pipes during their 5-4 2OT loss in Game 3, pulling Frederik Andersen after he allowed four goals by the midway point of the second period in favor of Brandon Bussi, who was given the start in Game 4 and responded with 18 saves as part of the win. And now, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour has made his starter for Game 5 in Carolina known.

Bussi will be getting his second consecutive start in goal, while Andersen will not even be on Carolina’s bench; Carolina’s backup goaltender for the evening will be Pyotr Kochetkov once again.

“Bussi leads Hurricanes onto the ice for Game 5,” wrote TSN’s Mark Masters on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Pyotr Kochetkov is the back-up once again.”

Brind’Amour had no shortage of praise for Bussi after his Game 4 performance, helping the Hurricanes move to within two wins of the Stanley Cup.

“He was phenomenal,” Brind’Amour said of Bussi via NHL.com. “He got a taste of it the other night and kind of just picked up right where he left off, I thought. We gave up a couple breakaways early, some breakdowns. He was just really solid all night. Gotta give him a lot of credit.”

Game 5 between the Hurricanes and Golden Knights will get underway shortly after 8:00 p.m. ET.
