Morehouse College running back Nicholas Woodford is transferring to Central Michigan after a standout freshman season. Woodford entered the program with a significant high school football resume and cemented himself as a constant in Morehouse’s backfield in a season that exceeded expectations for the program.
Woodford capped off an outstanding 2024 season at Northeast High School, establishing himself as one of the state’s most productive running backs. Across 14 games, he rushed for 2,603 yards and 37 touchdowns on 250 carries, averaging 185.9 yards per game and more than 10 yards per attempt. He also contributed in the passing game, hauling in 17 receptions for 227 yards and five additional scores. By the end of his career, Woodford had become the all-time leading rusher in the history of Bibb County athletics.
His postseason performances further cemented his legacy. Against previously unbeaten Fannin County High School in the GHSA Class A Division I playoffs, Woodford erupted for 374 rushing yards and four touchdowns to lead Northeast to a 48-39 upset victory. He followed that performance with 356 all-purpose yards in a 46-14 semifinal win over Fitzgerald High School, sending the Raiders to the state championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Although Northeast fell 38-18 to Toombs County High School in the title game, Woodford still showcased his versatility with 109 rushing yards, 41 receiving yards, and a touchdown reception.
He then committed to Morehouse and played 10 games for the team. He averaged 427 yards and five touchdowns in 105 attempts while also showcasing his skills as a receiving back, with 24 catches for 245 yards and one touchdown. His best game came against Edward Waters University, where he finished the game with 95 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. He also was a key contributor to Morehouse’s upset of Tuskegee University and the Morehouse-Tuskegee Classic as he took a 44-yard pass to the house for a touchdown run to put the Maroon Tigers on the board.
He joins a Central Michigan team that went 7-6 and 5-3 in conference. Central Michigan found themselves in the top five of rushing offense in the MAC, averaging 163.5 rushing yards per game and finishing with 17 rushing touchdowns.
