Shane Bieber’s stellar rehab start suggest MLB return is near

The Toronto Blue Jays left fans wondering when Shane Bieber would return from his MLB Injury. Toronto has rolled without Bieber since May 22. But his rehab stint is firing off the signal he’s ready to return.

Bieber is south of the Canadian border in Buffalo, New York. Jon Morosi of MLB.com dropped this update of Bieber’s Triple-A work Thursday:

Fanning four batters will energize Blue Jays fans awaiting his return. He also surrendered no runs while walking just one batter, meaning his pitching game is returning to full strength.

Bieber previously battled elbow issues that placed him on the injured list. He dealt with inflammation stemming from a recent Tommy John surgery, forcing him to IL. He joined fellow pitching option Max Scherzer as options dealing with sudden ailments.

Yet the right hander Bieber showed signs of getting his pitching prowess back during early May. Blue Jays head coach John Schneider gave a glowing review of one May 6 outing during his early rehab stint.

Bieber hasn’t recorded any stats in 2026. He last went 4-2 as a 2025 starter; featuring 37 strikeouts and eight home runs allowed. He surrendered 34 hits and 16 runs too on the hill during Toronto’s American League title run.

The Orange, California native arrived following a lengthy run with the Cleveland Guardians. He landed on the AL All-Star team twice in 2019 and 2021 while with the AL franchise.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are watching Ernie Clement establish himself as Toronto’s next all-star. Clement is receiving a big push from his team to earn a bid for the July spectacle.
