Hurricanes vet Jordan Staal’s Stanley Cup Final heater makes new NHL history

Carolina Hurricanes star Jordan Staal can’t stop lighting the lamp in the 2026 NHL Stanley Cup Final.

The 37-year-old Staal scored at least a goal for the fifth consecutive game in the championship series against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night, as he put Carolina on the board and tied the score at 1-1 in the first period with a goal 11:46 into Game 5 at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

With that goal, Staal also became just the first player in the history of the NHL to have a five-goal streak at age 18 and after turning 37, according to OptaSTATS.

Jordan Staal:

Feb. 2007: 5-game goal streak at age 18
June 2026: 5-game goal streak at age 37

He’s the only player in NHL history with a 5+ game goal streak (reg or post) as a teenager and at 35 or older.

The first time Staal had a five-goal streak in the NHL, he was still with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and it took him nearly 20 years to duplicate that feat, something that he probably never expected to accomplish at this stage of his career.

But there is one incredible experience that he had with the Penguins that he surely wants to relive again with the Hurricanes, and that’s none other than winning the Stanley Cup.

Now, Staal and the Hurricanes are just a win away from raising the Cup after defeating the Golden Knights at home in Game 5, 4-2. They can take home the Stanley Cup as soon as Sunday, when the series shifts to Las Vegas for Game 6.
