The Indiana Fever needed five more minutes to stave off the Chicago Sky, 114-106, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday, but a win is a win, and for a team that is still trying to find its rhythm, that is more than enough.
The Fever notched their third win in four games, improving to 7-5. They have tallied back-to-back victories in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Coach Stephanie White was, as usual, fired up against the Sky. In the third quarter, she went at the referees for calling a charge on Aliyah Boston, thus picking up her fourth foul. White was whistled for a technical foul.
In the postgame conference, White did not hold back on her technical foul, while also laughing it off, as reported by the Indianapolis Star’s Chloe Peterson.
“I thought the tech was soft,” said the former Coach of the Year.
“I thought that there were moments where it wasn’t as consistent as I wanted it to be. I didn’t think I deserved the tech, but I got it anyway.”
White’s technical foul came just two minutes after Caitlin Clark was also called for one. Clark protested a no-call when she went for a layup, claiming that Azura Stevens fouled her.
Peterson shared that Clark acknowledged that her technical foul was “definitely deserved.”
“But I wanted it, because after that, I got to the free-throw line more,” explained the two-time All-Star.
Clark had 32 points, seven rebounds, and 10 assists, while Boston added 34 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
White and Clark recently had a heated exchange, which quickly went viral. But they quickly downplayed it, chalking it up to their competitive fire, which was clearly displayed against the Sky.
