Golden Knights’ John Tortorella makes bold promise after dropping Game 5 to Hurricanes

Vegas Golden Knights head coach John Tortorella was on brand with his outlook for his team following Thursday’s 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on the road.

The 67-year-old Golden Knights bench boss showed clear confidence that his team will at least tie the series and force a Game 7, offering a candid take following Vegas’ Game 5 defeat at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“We’ll be back here. We’re just going to do it in a different order,” Tortorella said during the postgame press conference, via Sporstnet.

“I’m going to leave my clothes here, that’s for sure. They’ll be in the hotel.”

The Golden Knights had the upper hand in the series twice. They won Game 1 in Carolina before losing Game 2. Vegas regained the series lead with a victory at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, in Game 3.

Since then, the Hurricanes have controlled the series, with back-to-back wins in Games 4 and 5, moving just a victory away from raising the Stanley Cup. That can take place as soon as Sunday in Las Vegas.

Adding to the Golden Knights’ headache is the concerning status of star center William Karlsson and the shaky goaltending of Carter Hart. Karlsson suffered an apparent upper-body injury in Game 5, while Hart has a brutal save percentage of .856 so far in the series against the Hurricanes.

Still, the Golden Knights are very much alive in this edition of the Stanley Cup Final, and a game in front of their fans at home ice should give them a big boost in Game 6.
