Mind-blowing stadium plans will keep Grizzlies in downtown Memphis to chagrin of NBA stars

Earlier this year, there were reports that many NBA stars hated Memphis and wished the Grizzlies would relocate to Nashville. That prompted some discussion about the Grizzlies’ arena plans and whether they would stay in downtown Memphis. Now, the latest report has indicated the team will stay in Memphis for decades, according to News Channel 3.

“Duncan Williams, interim president of the Chamber, told an audience Tuesday that he had a recent meeting with Grizzlies President Jason Wexler and had the opportunity to see plans about what they are planning at the FedExForum and beyond,” News Channel 3 wrote.

This is not the news many players wanted to hear. LeBron James sparked the fire. Notably, it was his comments that started this all. But James clarified his issue was not with Memphis, but with one hotel. Yet, none of this hate is toward the Grizzlies. Many players have cited that the Grizzlies are fine, but the city itself is not.

Ja Morant has led the Grizzlies for several years and given the city something exciting to look forward to. Yet, it has done nothing to dissuade players from having Memphis on their no-trade list. James’ earlier comments have spurred some clapback, especially from Memphis residents. Despite the initial comments, there does not seem to be any plans for the team to move. When the team moved from Vancouver to Memphis, it gave the city its first and currently only team. While Nashville has two professional teams, Memphis has only one professional team. That will apparently remain the case for years to come.
