Jazz rumors: NBA Draft insider makes ‘gut feeling’ Cameron Boozer pick

The Utah Jazz own the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, which is scheduled to begin on June 23. While it is unclear who the front office will select when the team is on the clock, it appears at least one insider thinks Cameron Boozer might be the pick.

In his latest column on Yahoo! Sports, NBA insider Kevin O’Connor mocked the former Duke Blue Devils forward to the Jazz. However, O’Connor linking Boozer to the Jazz is not based on anything he is hearing in the rumor mill. Instead, he is basing his opinion on what he calls a “gut feeling,” due to the history of Chief Executive Officer Danny Ainge.

“I’m moving Boozer into [the No. 2] slot, and it’s not based on any intel at all. It’s just a gut feeling based on history,” said O’Connor. “Once upon a time, the Celtics had the first pick in the draft. Then they traded it! Boston worked out Markelle Fultz, the consensus first pick in 2017, and something was just off… Alarm bells went off. So the Celtics traded down and landed Jayson Tatum…

“So, you’re telling me that a Jazz front office, now led by Danny Ainge and Austin Ainge, will take Darryn Peterson?” proclaimed O’Connor. “Peterson has the whole cramping saga… Peterson sits out of the biggest game of his life, and he calls himself an ‘anti-social loner.’ I just don’t buy it when the alternate choice is one of the greatest college freshmen in recent history: Cam Boozer.”

Kevin O’Connor isn’t the only insider pegging the prospect forward to Utah. Bill Simmons also believes Cameron Boozer is the pick the Jazz could make on draft night. O’Connor and Simmons seem to like how Boozer fits in with the Jazz. Additionally, they both believe Danny Ainge is a great evaluator of talent, and selecting the safer pick in Boozer instead of Darryn Peterson appears to be a realistic scenario.

We won’t know where Boozer is drafted until June 23. While O’Connor and Simmons think he could be the pick at No. 2 overall to the Jazz, ClutchPoints’ own Brett Siegel has Cameron Boozer going No. 3 overall to the Memphis Grizzlies.
