It’s been a season filled with turmoil for the Boston Red Sox, as they are currently 27-39 and in last place in the AL East. Because of that, the Jarren Duran trade rumors have gotten louder, as the team might sell at the trade deadline, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
“It seemed as though Duran’s trade value had plummeted to an all-time low by the end of April, when he was hitting .170 with one home run and a .481 OPS through his first 26 games this season. Since May 1, the 29-year-old has turned things around, posting a .767 OPS with nine homers in 35 games, and while he still doesn’t look like the player who posted a 9-WAR season in 2024, Duran is under control for two more years and could benefit from a change of scenery given a Boston outfield that will be crowded again when Roman Anthony returns from the injured list,” Feinsand wrote.
The Red Sox are fielding calls for a few players, and Duran seems to be among them. Just a few short years ago, he was one of the top promising players. Now, things have spiraled out of control. Duran is batting just .216 with 10 home runs, 33 RBIs, and 32 runs with 11 stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .278 with a slugging percentage of .401.
A change of scenery could help Duran, especially if it is to a contending team. For now, he remains with the Red Sox, and the team will keep him for as long as they can. But if the right offer comes along, there will definitely be a talk about whether trading Duran would be the best option.
