Atlanta Braves star catcher Drake Baldwin is continuing to recover from an oblique injury. The Braves are hopeful that Baldwin will be able to return soon. Grant McAuley shared an update on Baldwin’s injury recovery before the team’s game on Friday against the New York Mets.
“#Braves C Drake Baldwin will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. If all goes well, he could be activated from the 10-day IL as soon as Tuesday,” McAuley reported.
Baldwin is nearing his return from injury. Assuming no setbacks occur, the star catcher could join the big league ball club sooner rather than later. Atlanta has continued to perform well despite Baldwin’s injury absence, but the team is looking forward to his return regardless.
Baldwin earned the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 2025. He performed even better to begin the 2026 campaign, as Baldwin hit .303/.389/.543 across 48 games played. He added 13 home runs and six doubles.
Baldwin has emerged as one of the better catchers in all of MLB. He will certainly give the Braves a crucial boost once he returns.
Atlanta’s 45-23 overall record leads the league. The 44-25 Los Angeles Dodgers are not far behind, though. It seems as if the Braves and Dodgers could end up competing for the best record in MLB for the rest of the season. They have been the best ball clubs in the sport through the first few months of the new campaign.
For now, the Braves are focused on their matchup on Friday night against the Mets in New York at 7:15 PM EST.
