The biggest name in NBA free agency this offseason is none other than Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. Even before the Lakers were eliminated from the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder, the NBA world was rife with rumors and speculation regarding James’ pending free agency and what he might decide to do.
But according to his agent Rich Paul, none of what’s been reported is true. LeBron James has not communicated anything about his free agency plans this offseason and he intends to take plenty of time before reaching a decision, Paul revealed during a recent episode of ‘The Pat McAfee Show.’
“Believe nothing that is out there because I haven’t had one conversation with him. At the end of the season I made it clear that I would respect he and the family because this is going to be a family decision for him,” Paul said.
“When you think about numbers that have been thrown out, what we’re asking about and all these things, it’s all false. We haven’t had one conversation with anybody about anything.”
Paul also mentioned that while he has spent time with James playing golf since the season has ended, he doesn’t ever bring up James’ future and will allow the Lakers’ star to approach him when he’s ready to discuss his options.
After picking up his contract option last offseason, James is entering unrestricted free agency along with questions about whether or not he still wants to keep playing.
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer is coming off an unprecedented 23rd season in the NBA during which he was will playing at an All-Star caliber level. He appeared in 60 games at a little over 33 minutes per game while averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.2 steals.
James shot 51.5 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from the 3-point line and 73.7 percent from the free-throw line.
