Victor Wembanyama claims Spurs are already over Game 4 collapse

The San Antonio Spurs are facing elimination in the 2026 NBA Finals, but Victor Wembanyama says the team has already moved on from its historic Game 4 collapse against the New York Knicks.

Speaking to reporters during Friday’s media availability, Wembanyama acknowledged the difficulty of Wednesday night’s loss while emphasizing that San Antonio’s focus has shifted entirely to Game 5.

“I mean you said all of it… We’re very confident but yet again, I wouldn’t say it was so hard to like shake off, right?”

“But harder than any other game before, by far for sure but now we’re over it. It’s the playoffs. There’s no time to regret things for too long.”

The Spurs appeared to be in complete control of Game 4 before New York mounted the largest comeback in NBA Finals history. San Antonio led by as many as 29 points before the Knicks stormed back for a dramatic 107-106 victory, taking a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Wembanyama finished with 24 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and one assist in the loss. However, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year struggled offensively at times, shooting 9-for-25 from the field and missing two critical free throws during the fourth quarter as the Spurs watched their lead disappear.

Despite the devastating defeat, Wembanyama’s comments reflected a team determined to avoid dwelling on the past.

The Spurs still have an opportunity to extend the series, but the margin for error is gone. San Antonio must now win three consecutive games against a Knicks team that has won 14 of its last 15 playoff contests and sits one victory away from ending a championship drought that dates back to 1973.

New York has been powered throughout the Finals by the play of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby, whose late putback in Game 4 ultimately completed the comeback.

The series now returns to Frost Bank Center for Game 5 on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC. A Spurs victory would force the series back to Madison Square Garden for Game 6, while a Knicks win would secure the franchise’s first NBA championship in more than five decades.
