UCLA gets huge commitment from 4-star WR

Although the UCLA Bruins finished the 2025-26 season with a 3-9 record, the program aims for a much better future after hiring Bob Chesney as head coach in December 2025. Chesney has been busy with recruiting since being hired, and managed to land a talented four-star commitment on Friday.

Matthew Gregory, a four-star wide receiver out of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, committed to UCLA, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals and On3 Sports. Gregory chose the Bruins over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

“BREAKING: Four-Star WR Matthew Gregory has Committed to UCLA, he tells me for Rivals,” reported Fawcett. “The 6’1, 180 lbs WR chose the Bruins over Nebraska.”

Gregory is the No. 133 overall player on Rivals’ rankings for the 2027 class. He’s also the No. 22-ranked wide receiver in the nation. While UCLA beat out Nebraska for Matthew Gregory, Penn State, Syracuse, and Texas A&M all offered him a scholarship as well.

The new UCLA Bruin is finishing his pre-college tenure at Owen J Roberts High School. He had 19 total visits before making his decision to play under Chesney. Two of which were official, UCLA and Nebraska. Gregory visited Penn State seven times, but ultimately decided to play on the West Coast.

Bob Chesney has done a great job in recruiting already, and he hasn’t even coached his first career game with UCLA yet. 10 of his 22 commitments are four-star athletes. The Bruins are currently ranked No. 14 in the nation in recruiting and are No. 5 in the Big Ten on On3 Sports’ lists.

UCLA is scheduled to kick off the 2026-27 campaign with a Week 1 matchup against the California Golden Bears. It will be a road game for the Bruins, as Chesney won’t make his home game debut until Week 2 against the San Diego State Aztecs.
