The Atlanta Braves have performed well despite battling injury concerns this season. It seems as if catcher Drake Baldwin will return from injury soon, and the team recently received another important update. Right-handed pitcher Hurston Waldrep, who is dealing with right elbow inflammation, had his rehab assignment transferred to Double-A and he could return in early July, according to MLB.com.
Waldrep appeared in 10 games (nine starts) with the Braves during the 2025 season. He displayed promise, as he pitched to a stellar 2.88 ERA across 56.1 innings of work on the mound.
Atlanta was hopeful that he would make a significant impact to begin the 2026 season, but he has yet to pitch due to injury. As long as no injury setbacks occur, it seems as if Waldrep could return in early July and make an impact during the second half of the 2026 campaign.
Meanwhile, the Braves continue to play well. They currently lead all of MLB with a 45-23 record. Atlanta holds a comfortable eight-game lead in the National League East standings over the second place Philadelphia Phillies.
On Friday, the Braves are set to begin a three-game series against the New York Mets on the road. Atlanta has not played since Wednesday, as their game on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox was postponed due to rain.
The ball club will look to perform well on the road against their NL East rival this weekend. First pitch for the ball game between the Braves and Mets on Friday night is scheduled for 7:15 PM EST.
