The season for the Edmonton Oilers came to a close in disappointing fashion, as they were eliminated by a divisional opponent from southern California in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
For the first time since 2022, the Oilers did not face the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference Quarterfinal, but instead were matched up against the Anaheim Ducks, who defeated them in six games to advance to the second round. Meanwhile, Edmonton’s dreams of a third straight trip to the Stanley Cup Final were dashed.
However, despite the franchise struggling with inconsistent play during the regular season, it didn’t stop star captain Connor McDavid from once again putting together a stellar offensive campaign. McDavid led the NHL in total scoring, tallying 48 goals with 90 assists for 138 total points, his second-highest point total since reaching 153 points in 2022-23.
Despite narrowly missing out on the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player during regular-season play, McDavid did earn another First NHL All-Star Team selection. With a total of 823 voting points, McDavid has now earned six First-Team All-Star selections and two Second-Team All-Star selections in his career.

McDavid signed a short-term, two-year contract extension at an unbelievably team-friendly salary cap hit of $12.5 million, which kicks in at the start of the upcoming season. It will be incumbent on Oilers GM Stan Bowman to put together the best possible roster around him to entice him into staying behind the short two-year window that officially begins in the fall.
One of the top players already in NHL history, McDavid has scored 409 goals with 811 assists in 794 career games.
