Phillies’ Adolis Garcia placed on injured list amid dreadful season

The Philadelphia Phillies placed outfielder Adolis Garcia on the 60-day injured list due to a right latissimus dorsi tear, the team announced on Friday. They also announced other moves, as Philadelphia recalled outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. from Triple-A, outfielder Derek Hill (who the Phillies recently acquired in a trade) reported to the team, and outfielder Steward Berroa was placed on the paternity list.

For Garcia, the injury adds to what has been a difficult overall season. The Phillies signed Garcia during the offseason, but he has hit just .195/.270/.329 across 67 games played with the ball club.

Now the Phillies will be without the two-time All-Star for a while. Philadelphia could look to trade for an outfielder amid Garcia’s injury absence.

The Phillies are currently 37-31 overall this season. They struggled to begin the new campaign, but Philadelphia has performed well in recent action. The ball club is 7-3 over its past 10 games and it looks like they will be able to make a run at a National League Wild Card spot at the very least. However, they still trail the Atlanta Braves by eight games in the National League East standings.

Philadelphia most recently earned a 7-4 win against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. On Friday, the Phillies are set to play the Milwaukee Brewers in the first contest of a three-game series. Milwaukee currently leads the National League Central with a 41-25 record.

First pitch for the ball game on Friday night between the Phillies and Brewers in Milwaukee is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST.
