The New York Knicks are one win away from being NBA champions, but they first have to take care of business against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5. It’s been a crazy series that has tipped in the Knicks’ favor, and Game 4 was one for the ages after they were down 29 points and came back to win.
It was a collective group effort, but OG Anunoby was the star of the final seconds of the game, as he got a huge block on De’Aaron Fox, and then tipping the ball in on the other end to give the Knicks the lead.
People are already looking at Anunoby as the savior, and he’s getting invited to throw out a pitch for the New York Mets, courtesy of Jose Reyes.
“Hey [OG Anunoby], Happy for your success. Proud that you’re a Mets fan. The Mets and I would love to invite you to Citi Field to throw out a ceremonial first pitch. All the best, Jose Reyes,” Reyes wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Throwing a pitch for the Mets is probably the last thing on Anunoby’s mind right now, but if the Knicks can close out the series, he’ll accept the invitation.
This isn’t the first honor for Anunoby in the past few days, as Manhattan Borough President Brady Hoylman-Sigal declared that June 11, 2026, “OG Anunoby Appreciation Day.”
There’s no doubt that Anunoby deserves all the love that he’s being shown, and he’s a big reason why the Knicks are leading the series 3-1. Many are already making arguments as to why he should win Finals MVP, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he did so.
Of course, the Knicks have to finish the job because the Spurs won’t make it easy for them.
