USMNT’s Christian Pulisic crushed for ‘heart the size of a pea’ by former Chelsea player

The USMNT’s biggest star at the FIFA World Cup is undoubtedly Christian Pulisic, who once joined the Premier League giants Chelsea in a £58 million move out from Borussia Dortmund. Currently at AC Milan, Pulisic may not have reached the heights once expected of him, but has still established himself as one of the more-exciting wingers in European football, with a total of 42 goals in 132 appearances thus far for the Italian club.

However, former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur star Jason Cundy recently launched a scathing attack on the 27-year-old, per a post on X by talkSPORT.

“They call him captain America, I would not want him captain of England. No chance at all, he is a good-looking guy, heart the size of a pea mate. I don’t think he is a bad footballer. He is not built for the Premier League, you want someone in the trenches to fight,” Cundy said.

Of course, Pulisic’s time at Chelsea only saw him produce flashes of the brilliance that initially got him the big-money move from Germany. He scored 20 times in 98 games and generally found himself out of sorts due to the high physicality in the biggest football league in the world.

However, Pulisic’s ability to lead the USMNT is under no doubt. He has produced 33 goals from 88 appearances for his country, and comes to the World Cup after a season that saw him score ten goals in 34 Serie A games for Milan. But Cundy went in detail about exactly what he does not envision Pulisic being able to do.

“You want someone to dig in, to chase back. The physicality, the pace, he can’t cope. He’s out in Italy at the moment, perfect for him,” he explained.

The USMNT kick off their World Cup campaign with a game against Paraguay and will be confident of winning a group that also comprises of Australia and Turkey. It will be in the knockouts when Pulisic’s fighting spirit may come under the scanner considering the wealth of teams that are superior to the USMNT in the World Cup, at least on paper.

However, there is little doubt that he remains his team’s best attacker, and is still capable of being the difference against the best teams.
