New York Knicks executive Leon Rose has come under fire in recent years from fans regarding some of the roster decisions he’s made since he’s been in his position. But right now, the roster that he built and the coach that he hired is one win away from winning the team’s first championship in over 50 years. Trading for Karl-Anthony Towns was one of the major moves Rose made, and Towns credits him for establishing a family-like atmosphere for the Knicks, as per SNY Knicks.
“When you’re an agent, anyone who knows the sports agency business, it’s all about relationships. What Leon is one of the best in the world at is having genuine loving relationships with people. And I think because of that you see the way our team … conducts itself,” Towns said during a media availability session ahead of Game 5. “We conduct ourselves like family, and he’s always had that family mantra in everything he’s done.”
Among the notable other moves that Leon Rose has made in his tenure are signing Jalen Brunson to a contract extension, trading for OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges and firing Tom Thibodeau and replacing him with Mike Brown.
Some of those moves caught a lot of flak at the time, most specifically the Thibodeau firing, and the Bridges trade after the Knicks gave up quite a bit in draft assets and then Bridges went through a mid-season slump.
But perhaps the Karl-Anthony Towns trade was the most impactful one in that it gave the Knicks a legitimate co-star alongside Brunson. And with the Knicks just one win away from an NBA Finals victory, it’s safe to say Rose knew what he was doing.
