Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet’s latest injury update comes with All-Star break catch

After a brilliant first season with the Boston Red Sox, Garrett Crochet came into the 2026 season as the ace of the staff and with the hope of competing for the Cy Young Award. However, Crochet has been on the mound just six times this year as a lat injury has derailed his season.

Crochet’s recovery has been extremely slow, but he has revealed that there is finally a bit of an improvement in his condition. His lat has improved and is no longer causing him pain. As a result, he should be able to resume throwing shortly, although no specific date has been determined.

Once he starts throwing again, it will take several weeks to build up his arm strength to a point he will be able to pitch again for the Red Sox. Crochet said that he does not expect to pitch before the All-Star Game.

By that point, the Red Sox may have made the decision to trade off several assets because they will be out of contention for a playoff position. They are currently in last place in the American League East with a disappointing 27-39 record. The Red Sox are 13.5 games behind the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, as those two teams are tied for first place. They are 4.0 games behind the fourth place Baltimore Orioles and 6.0 games behind the Texas Rangers for the last Wild Card position in the American League.

The Red Sox have struggled badly at home this season with a 10-21 record. They start a three-game series at Fenway Park against the Texas Rangers Friday night. Newcomer Sonny Gray (7-1, 3.20 ERA) will take the mound for the Red Sox against Rangers hurler Jack Leiter (3-5, 4.69 ERA).
