Justin Jefferson is confident Kyler Murray will learn Vikings’ ‘difficult’ offense

The quarterback competition for the Minnesota Vikings is between JJ McCarthy and Kyler Murray. While McCarthy is still developing his game, Murray is in the process of learning the offense created by head coach Kevin O’Connell. On Friday, wide receiver Justin Jefferson opened up about what he thinks about Murray’s ability to learn the offense.

While talking with media members, Jefferson, who is 27 years old, admitted that the Vikings’ offense is a hard one to learn. However, he claimed that he is confident in Murray to eventually pick things up and potentially play a vital role for Minnesota, according to VikingzFanPage.

“I definitely understand his difficulty of understanding some things, just because this offense is difficult, especially going against our defense,” said Jefferson about Murray. “Seeing the different coverages, the rolls, the schemes. It’s really going to help him out when the season comes — if he’s the starting quarterback.”

Justin Jefferson has shared his opinion about both quarterbacks on the roster now. The six-year veteran recently revealed that McCarthy is at least improving as a touch passer, which is one of Murray’s strengths. However it plays out, Jefferson is seemingly keeping a close eye on the quarterback situation.

Kyler Murray joined the Vikings this offseason after signing a one-year, $1.3 million veteran minimum. The Arizona Cardinals are still paying the 28-year-old QB $36.8 million in guaranteed money after releasing him shortly after the end of the 2025-26 season.

Murray certainly hopes to put the past behind him, as his final year in Arizona was one to forget. The seven-year veteran finished the last campaign with just 962 passing yards, 173 rushing yards, and seven total touchdowns with a 68.3% completion percentage. He was limited to five games after suffering a concussion in Week 5, then never returned due to the Cardinals giving the starting nod to Jacoby Brissett instead.
