While there was an injury concern for Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, manager Dave Roberts would give an update that fans are sure to want to hear. As Ohtani is not in the Dodgers’ lineup against the Chicago White Sox at the start of the series on Friday night, Roberts expressed his hope for the 31-year-old.
Speaking to the media before Friday’s contest against the White Sox, Roberts would be asked if Ohtani’s usage would be impacted when he returns from the knee issue. After saying that he doesn’t think it will, he would say that the expectation is that he makes his pitching start on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays and that he’ll be in the clubhouse Saturday or Sunday.
“I don’t think it’s going to affect, maybe the short term, depending on how he feels, you know. I expect him to make his start on Wednesday, and till I hear otherwise, I expect him to be in there either tomorrow or the next day until I hear otherwise,” Roberts said, via SportsNet LA.

Dodgers’ Dave Roberts speaks more on Shohei Ohtani’s situation
Roberts would continue speaking about Ohtani, who, so far this season with the Dodgers, has hit a .305 batting average to go along with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs. The manager would go as far as to say that Ohtani’s knee situation will not warrant a trip to the injured list (IL).
“He’s doing fine today,” Roberts said on Friday. “It’s just the normal wear and tear. I thought initially it was a hamstring, it was the knee, so it just kind of got upset, swelled up a little bit, and so I think we were kind of getting ahead of it…My hope is that he’s in there tomorrow, but if not, he’ll need another day, but it’s something that I think that we can manage, not an IL situation, and just seeing him today, he feels fine-ish, but again, just giving him an extra day is the smart thing to do.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen when Ohtani returns for Los Angeles.
