Red Sox’s Trevor Story accepting ‘cheerleader’ role during injury absence

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story cannot help the Boston Red Sox on the field right now as he recovers from sports hernia surgery. While Story’s injury absence on the field is far from ideal for the team, the infielder is still finding ways to impact the Red Sox. Story recently revealed how he is helping the team off the field on Friday, via NESN.

“Just being there, being there in the hitter’s meetings… Almost acting as if nothing had happened,” Story said. “Being in all the meetings, just being around, being available. Saying something if I see it, little things like that go a long way I think. Most of all, just being here for the boys and being a good cheerleader I guess.”

Story would obviously love to be on the field with his teammates. For now, he is doing everything he can to still make an impact for the ball club.

The Red Sox infielder also provided an injury update during his interview.

“Three weeks out of surgery yesterday, just good to get out here,” Story said. “We’re starting some rotation stuff, obviously super light. Making sure my body is ready for it. But it was good to get out here and feel like a baseball player a little bit. Just be with the boys.”

Updates will continue to be monitored and provided on Trevor Story’s injury status as they are made available. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are playing the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park on Friday night.
