Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson reached a significant career milestone in Friday night’s 7-3 win over the San Diego Padres at Camden Yards. The 24-year-old recorded the 100th home run of his major league career during a standout performance that included three hits and a walk.
After entering the game stuck on 99 career homers and carrying a 14-game home run drought, Henderson finally broke through in the fourth inning. His solo blast to the right-field flag court traveled a Statcast-projected 386 feet and left the bat at 108.8 mph, extending Baltimore’s lead to 7-2. The homer was Henderson’s 14th of the 2026 season, second on the Orioles behind Pete Alonso’s 15, and moved him within three of his total from the 2025 campaign.
The milestone came in Henderson’s 567th career game, making him one of the fastest Orioles-developed players to reach 100 home runs. Only Anthony Santander (526 games), Trey Mancini (531), and Boog Powell (564) accomplished the feat in fewer contests after debuting with Baltimore. At 24 years and 348 days old, Henderson also became the fourth-youngest player in franchise history to reach the century mark, behind only Boog Powell, Eddie Murray, and Manny Machado.
Henderson is now tied with Cal Ripken Jr. for home runs hit by an Orioles player before turning 25. Among players in franchise history, only Powell (127), Machado (121), and Murray (111) recorded more homers before their 25th birthday.
Baltimore’s offense continued its hot stretch by scoring at least seven runs for a third consecutive game. The Orioles opened quickly against Padres starter Griffin Canning, plating three runs in both the first and second innings. Rookie catcher Samuel Basallo supplied a two-run homer in the opening frame, while Alonso added a two-run single in the second. Tyler O’Neill contributed two hits, while Jackson Holliday and Adley Rutschman each drove in a run with sacrifice flies.
The offensive support proved valuable for starter Shane Baz, who worked five innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits. Baz improved to 4-6 despite issuing two walks and recording only one strikeout over 102 pitches. The Orioles’ bullpen combination of Anthony Nunez, Keegan Akin, Yennier Cano, and Andrew Kittredge then shut down the Padres, allowing only one hit across four scoreless innings.
