Southend United have made forward Josh Popoola their first signing since the appointment of Kieron Dyer as head coach.
The 22-year-old moves to Roots Hall after scoring 10 goals in 44 National League South appearances for Maidenhead United last season.
Popoola had spells in the youth set-ups at Watford and AFC Bournemouth at the start of his career and has also played for Stockport County, Tonbridge and Buxton.
"We had to fend off a few league clubs for his services, but he believes in our vision for where we feel the club is going," Dyer told the club website.
"He is a player who I feel will get the fans off their seats, with his pace, power and skill, and hopefully he is the first of many signings still to come."
