Victor Munoz was one of the rising stars in La Liga this season, producing superb performances for Osasuna and even earning a place in the Spain World Cup team in the process.

Munoz’s sublime season will be rewarded with a big-money move this summer, with Newcastle United in talks with Osasuna to snap him up this summer.

According to Diario de Navarra, negotiations between Newcastle and Osasuna have accelerated significantly in recent hours.

The offer includes a €4 million bonus component, and Osasuna have already responded with additional terms, pushing for a larger fixed sum and revised payment plans.

Economic boost for Real Madrid

Real Madrid are deeply involved in the deal, as Los Blancos are slated to gain significantly from Munoz’s potential move to St James’ Park this summer.

With Real Madrid retaining 50% of the player’s economic rights, they stand to receive approximately €15 million from the transfer.

Newcastle moved for Munoz following the sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for €80 million and have the player’s approval, with a highly attractive contract offer running until 2031 on the table.

Real Madrid held a buy-back clause on Munoz valid until July 31, and there was genuine internal consideration of whether to exercise it given his breakout season.

Ultimately, the club decided not to bring back Munoz, knowing that Nico Paz is already set to return after a successful spell at Como.

Barcelona had also been heavily linked with a move for the winger, which would have made sense given his La Masia roots.

However, Real Madrid’s right of first refusal and 50% ownership of his economic rights effectively blocked any move to the Camp Nou from the outset.

The Catalans were never going to get their hands on a player who had come through their own academy, thanks to the ironclad clauses Real Madrid had in place.
