Converting chances 'missing piece of the jigsaw' - Lynch

Derry City manager Tiernan Lynch says his side's much more clinical finishing proved the difference in their 4-1 win over Bohemians at Celtic Park on Friday as they bounced back from a run of disappointing results.

The Candystripes had gone seven games without a win before securing a convincing victory over Bohs in their Premier Division encounter.

Harry Vaughan gave the visitors the lead on 17 minutes with a venomous effort from range, before James Clarke equalised against his former club.

Three goals in eight second-half minutes sealed the win for the hosts, Conor Barr marking his first goal for his hometown club with a wonder-strike, before another from Clarke and one from Kevin Dos Santos rounded off the win.

Clarke had a chance to complete his hat-trick, but had a late penalty saved.

"We have been creating lots and lots of chances but we just haven't been putting the ball in the net and that was the missing piece of the jigsaw," said Lynch.

"We said if we could start to find the net with the chances we're creating we'll win more football games and thankfully we did that.

"I don't think this performance was a million miles different from so many other performances but the chances that we created we scored."

'We had to keep believing'

Despite winning just five of their 21 league games to date, Lynch's side sit sixth in the table.

"I'm absolutely delighted, delighted for the players. They deserved that. Delighted for the fans and everyone involved with the football club," added the former Larne boss.

"It was a tough first part of the season for us and I thought on so many occasions we didn't deserve what we got.

"We just had to keep believing that if we kept doing the right things we would get the reward and thankfully tonight was one of those nights."

Goalscorer Barr is one of the players who has impressed the Derry manager in recent weeks despite the side's underwhelming results.

"We've been crippled with injuries this year and it's been hard to get two successive starting XIs on the pitch but that's been a blessing in disguise for others.

"Conor Barr came in a few weeks ago and has arguably been one of our best players.

"We've got one win and we have to build on that, take belief from it, and keep doing the work we've been doing."
