A 17-year-old is in a coma after attack outside MSG following Game 4

The 2026 NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs have brought out the best and worst in people. Some fans have taken things too far, including throwing an object at Victor Wembanyama’s head as he exited the hotel.

After Game 4 on Wednesday, a 17-year-old was attacked outside of Madison Square Garden. It was then reported that the teen was put into a coma. Meanwhile, the suspect remains at large, per Matt Moret of The Athletic.

According to the NYPD, a group gathered outside the Garden and approached the teen. An argument ensued, and the police say a man allegedly punched and kicked the teen, who proceeded to suffer a seizure. The NYPD posted a picture of the suspect wanted for gang assault.

This is the latest in a series of violent events taking place in New York during the NBA Finals. As a result, the NYPD has stepped up its efforts.

“Once again, there were large crowds of people who engaged in incredibly reckless and dangerous behavior last night both during and after the game,” the NYPD said in a statement Thursday. “This demonstrates exactly why the NYPD has increased our presence in and around Madison Square Garden.”

The Athletic reported that 15 people were arrested after Game 4. This, after fans were caught on tape throwing eggs at Victor Wembanyama.

A brawl broke out outside the Garden after the Knicks’ loss in Game 3, forcing the NYPD to swoop in to diffuse the situation. 20 people were arrested and five officers were injured. Police arrested 17 people following Game 2, which was in San Antonio.

The NYPD didn’t provide an update on the teen’s condition.
