Liverpool have been tipped to complete a midfielder shakeup this summer.

The Reds may well listen to bids for Alexis Mac Allister for a start. The Argentina international, 27, is out of contract in 2028 and if no agreement is reached over a new deal then he could be on his way. His camp have confirmed no such talks are underway.

Curtis Jones has been the subject of transfer talks with Inter Milan although now it remains to be seen whether he gets a reprieve under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

The Basque tactico has pledged to treat every Liverpool player like a new signing in preseason - promising news for the likes of Harvey Elliott.

And one more player who stands to benefit is Stefan Bajcetic.

Bajcetic suffers injury-ravaged seasons

The 21-year-old is Liverpool’s forgotten man - having not appeared for the first team since May 2024. The Spaniard went on loan for the 2024/25 season - first at Red Bull Salzburg under Pep Lijnders and then at LaLiga side Las Palmas.

However various injury problems have brought his promising career to a juddering halt. Health updates on the Spain under-21 international have been few and far between in recent months - casting the deep-lying playmaker as a kind of forgotten man.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes will soon have a decision to make on the former Celta Vigo youth as his contract only extends until 2027.

Bajcetic will be fit for preseason

It looks like the one-time Jurgen Klopp favourite - whom the German called a "super" player - WILL get his chance in preseason to prove himself alongside Iraola’s other “new signings”.

Because a report on BBC Sport claims Bajcetic is aiming to be fit to start work under Iraola in July.

“Bajcetic is working towards being fit for pre-season in July,” the report reads.

Liverpool will be working with a reduced number to begin with - owing to various players’ participation at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in North America.

Bajcetic therefore will have a chance to stake an early claim on a midfield berth under Iraola - before the likes of Mac Allister, Jones and Ryan Gravenberch return to training.

Let’s hope he can put his injury troubles behind him and get on with what was once a very promising Liverpool career.
