Dave Roberts delivers verdict on White Sox’s sudden surge

The Chicago White Sox have done a complete about-face as they are now in first place in the American League Central at 37-31. Not only that, they are in the midst of a three-game winning streak, having defeated the defending-champion Los Angeles Dodgers 8-2 on Friday.

The success of the southsiders has caught the eye of Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, as the three-game series unfolds. He harkened back to not that long ago, when barely anyone was present at Guaranteed Rate Field. Roberts also celebrated the team’s dynamic.

“I remember a few years back it was empty and there was a lot of dismay here on the South Side,” Roberts said. “Now there’s a lot of energy and excitement. They’re in first place. It’s a young, tough, athletic team.”

The White Sox have relied on a few key components. Youthful development, power hitting, plate discipline, and a culture shift facilitated by the manager, Will Venable. It wasn’t that long ago when the White Sox finished 41-121.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers are, as expected, surging in the National League West Division. They are in first place at 44-26 and have won six out of their last ten games. Furthermore, they are eight games ahead of the second-place San Diego Padres.

Their high-powered/star-powered offense continues to dominate, their six-man pitching rotation is stellar, and their bullpen is superb.

The Dodgers and White Sox will play their second game of the series on Saturday at 3:10 pm CST/4:10 pm EST. Then, they will close it out on Sunday at 1:10 pm CST/2:10 pm EST.
